Formulated with proprietary organic acids, SUPER ETCH PLUS is designed for efficient etching of concrete without the harmful, noxious vapors associated with muriatic (hydrochloric) acid or whitish residue associated with phosphoric acid based etchants. SUPER ETCH PLUS may be used on concrete and other cementitious surfaces to provide an aggressive etch in preparation for sealing hard troweled concrete with two component waterborne and solventborne concrete sealers (such as SURTEC SURPRO 100 LV, SURPRO HDWB or SURPRO 44 MATTE). SUPER ETCH PLUS, when properly used according to directions, will not interfere with acid or other chemical staining techniques. At a proper dilution SUPER ETCH PLUS may also be used for light etching, and cement laitance and efflorescence removal. SUPER ETCH PLUS is readily biodegradable, non-corrosive to the skin and most metals (except for aluminum) and forms water soluble salts for easy rinsability.
Caution: SUPER ETCH PLUS is an acidic material and is corrosive to the eyes, therefore proper eye protection is required, and hand and skin protection is recommended to prevent minor skin irritation. SUPER ETCH PLUS may be diluted up to 1:10 with water. For preparation of the concrete for application of high performance two component, sealers and coatings, it may be necessary to use SUPER ETCH PLUS undiluted, but a 1:1 to 1:2 dilution is typically sufficient. Test in an inconspicuous spot to determine the proper dilution. Prior to etching confirm that the concrete is clean and dry, and free of oils, greases, markings or any material that may interfere with the etching and subsequent sealing process.
For best results apply SUPER ETCH PLUS with an acid-proof pump-up sprayer, slightly overlapping each pass. The solution will effervesce and foam after application. Allow at least 5 minutes of dwell time, then scrub with a floor machine or automatic scrubber equipped with a black stripping pad (for smooth surfaces) or with a nylo-grit brush (for textured surfaces). For best results, thoroughly scrub in one direction, then scrub a second time in the opposite direction, for example, North-South, then East -West. To neutralize, apply a solution of Surtec HC-150 heavy duty cleaner or SC-210 heavy duty cleaner/degreaser (diluted 2 oz. per gallon with water) with a mop or pump-up sprayer. Scrub the floor thoroughly with a floor machine or automatic scrubber equipped with black pads or nylo-grit brushes, then pickup neutralized solution with a wet-dry vac or automatic scrubber. Flood rinse and scrub the floor with fresh, clean water and pick up with a wet-dry vac or automatic scrubber. Damp mop with clean water to remove any residue. Allow the floor to dry completely before staining or sealing. Repeat the above procedure if more etching is desired.
